|Tribute to A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. May his Soul Rest in Peace. Title: 'We Will Save the Freedom'
About a month ago, I had the privilege of interviewing Akbar Saheb, the mustacioed man pictured above. He is a very gifted illustrator and painter, and it just so happens we work at the same agency, though in difference departments. Never had i imagined I would someday meet such a famous painter with his level of creativity and years of painting experience, leave alone work on the same floor as one.
Akbar had recently painted a series of portraits of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and since the delegate was in Dubai for business purposes, Akbar sought out and received an official invite to meet the man in his paintings. To share his story with others in the company, an informal interview was scheduled, and I was requested to meet with the man. For obvious reasons, I grew more nervous with every second the moment drew closer.
The next thing I knew, Akbar and I were laughing at the oddest of things amidst painting schedule details and the joy of colours. Then it dawned on me, no matter how much of a mini-celebrity he may be, it's his humble and grounded demeanour that made the conversation so easy. Listening to his honest opinions, words of wisdom, and viewing copies of his very many paintings was truly, an awe-inspiring meeting. And to think, he probably had more than a quadruple of these emotions meeting his muse!
It wasn't long before we headed back to our respective departments. Occasionally, we do cross paths at the floor pantry, where everybody is on the same level.
